After completing his studies of piano, voice and conducting at the Eastman School of Music Piero Bonamico moved to Vermont where he was hired to teach piano at Vermont College and to conduct the Mad River Chorale. He has since conducted choral festivals and workshops, continues to work with the Mad River Chorale and was hired as conductor of both the Randolph Singers and the Barre Choraleers in 2003 He is very excited about the development of these two ensembles and what it predicts for the future. After years of building the Mad River Chorale has begun to perform major choral works including Mozart's Requiem (2005) and Mendelsson's Elijah (2006). Preparations will begin in February for a June production of Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle. Mr. Bonamico has served as musical director for a number of theater productions including Sweet Charity, Once Upon a Mattress, Anything Goes, 42nd Street, Little Shop of Horrors, The Wiz, West Side Story, Fiddler On the Roof, Les Miserables, City of Angels, Seussical the Musical, Urinetown, Tale of the Madarin Ducks and Beauty and the Beast.
Mr. Bonamico studies voice with Bill Reed and vocal jazz with Gregory Toroian, both of New York City. He performs regularly as a vocalist in cabarets and has performed in two solo recitals: A Night of Italian Song and Songs You’ll Know. Of the latter concert, Times Argus arts editor Jim Lowe wrote: “...Vocally Bonamico is always attractive, and in songs like the Kurt Weill-Maxwell Anderson “September Song” and the Lerner and Loew “On the Street Where You Live,” his mellifluous tenor was applied expressively and attractively. His classical training showed as he was able to move from one vocal range to another virtually seamlessly. He also clearly understood the meaning of each song and conveyed it to the receptive standing-room-only house.” Bonamico also made his theatrical debute in 2005 as "Jamie" in Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years.
Mr. Bonamico served as co-author with friend and mentor Donald Neuen on the collegiate textbook Choral Concepts, published by Wadsworth in January 2002. Upon the completion of Choral Concepts, Bonamico created the Choral Excellence Series. This company produces print, video and web tools for choral musicians across America. To date, the projects include Donald Neuen’s Choral Techniques and Methods and Empower the Choir, and Robert DeCormier’s A Choral Excursion and A Counterpoint Christmas. He has recently completed a variety of new projects including Marie Stultz’s Choral Excellence for Treble Voices; and Patrick Freer’s Success for Adolescent Singers. Bonamico's latest project, A Visitor's Guide to Mendelssohn's Elijah is set for publication in the Winter of 2007. |
